Hawks Fall Short In AMCC Game

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women's basketball team suffered a 76-53 AMCC defeat tonight to the Panthers from Pitt-Bradford.  Shannon Rogers posted 14 points and 12 rebounds as the only Hawk to reach double figure, while Ali Rinfrette led three visitors to double digit hits.

Bradford improved to 7-4 and 3-1 in the league and dropped the Hawks to 6-5 and 3-2 after five league games.

Kelsi Ebert finished with eight points and Samantha Heiler, Emily Speidel and Lindsay O'Neil all collected seven points.  Katelyn Proy cleared seven rebounds (five points) and was credited with three blocks.

Heiler got the Hawks on the board first in the opening quarter and that 2-0 score was Hilbert's only lead of the game.  Bradford hit a three-pointer on their next trip and when Ebert connected on a traditional three-point play, the final tie of the game was created at 8:27 (5-5).  Missed shots by the hosts and successful outside shooting from Bradford sent the teams to the quarter break at 18-13.

The Hawks defense held tight in the opening minutes of 2nd Q as they limited the Panthers' point production.  When Speidel hit the long ball at 7:11, Hilbert trailed by just two (21-19) but Bradford closed the 2nd period with a trio of three-pointers to build back their 36-24 advantage at half.

Twice in the third quarter, Hilbert was able to trim the difference to six points - both times off 3-point shots (Seidel and Jennifer Colvin).  As they did prior, the Panthers found space to fire from beyond the arc and took the wind out of Hilbert's sails.  Bradford doubled-up the royal and white on the score board (25-11) in the final period to claim the road win.

Hilbert shot 38.3% from the floor but 27.3% from 3-point land.  Bradford was a little better at 41.9% but made 12 shots from downtown.

AMCC play continues this weekend when La Roche College and Penn State Altoona travel to Hamburg.  The Hawks host the Redhawks on Saturday (4pm) and then will turn around the next afternoon to square-off against the Lions at 3pm.
