Pioneers Season Ends in ECAC Semis

Alfred State won the first set but top seed Kean University rallied for the 3-1 victory in the ECAC semifinals hosted at the Orvis Activities Center. The Pioneers took the opener 25-17 but the Cougars won the next three 25-19, 25-15, 25-20.

Kiara Perkins (Coudersport, PA) capped her solid career with 15 kills and 10 digs. Karleigh Haines (Jamestown) finished with 14 kills and six digs while Nayomie Ferrer (Eastridge) finished with 38 assists, 17 digs, and five service aces. Emma Petrichick (Genesee Valley) finished with 17 digs.

Morgan Hall and Ashley Smith led the Cougars with 12 kills each. Kylie Brua passed out 31 assists and Sedona Gaard led the way with 22 digs.

The Pioneers hit .452 in the first set but struggled the rest of the way. They finished the night with a 0.150 hitting percentage. On the other hand, Kean approved their hitting percentage after a slow start. Both teams served eight aces but the Pioneers had 12 service errors.

Kean advances to tomorrow's 11 a.m. ECAC Championship match. They will take on Rutgers Camden. The Scarlet Raptors swept Hunter in the other semifinal match.

The Pioneers close out the 2021 season with a 18-4 overall record. They were making their third appearance in the ECAC Tournament.
