Chicago, Ill. - Two corner-kick goals and a crucial save on a penalty kick helped propel the Illinois Tech women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Penn St.-Behrend Sunday afternoon at a rainy Stuart Field. With the victory, the Scarlet Hawks improved to 4-1-0 on the season. The Lions fell to 1-3-0.

The Scarlet Hawks got single tallies in each half and held on for the win after the Lions cut the lead in half with a corner-kick goal of their own with just under five minutes remaining. The win over the Lions completed a week in which the Hawks went 3-0.

How It Happened

  • At the 37:00 mark of the first half, a right-side corner kick by the Hawks Lucy Jorjorian rattled into the goal area, where Lucy Vanveldhuisen knocked it in to stake the Scarlet Hawks to a 1-0 lead.

  • About four minutes later, a Scarlet Hawks foul in the penalty box resulted in a penalty kick for Emily Clopp of the Lions. Clopp's shot towards the inside of the right post was knocked down by Hawks goalkeeper Sarah Thomas
  • With 4:19 remaining in the match, the Lions finally got on the board when Sarah White scored directly off of her corner-kick from the right side to cut the Hawk's lead to 2-1.  The Lions, however, were not able to get any closer.
