HAMBURG, N.Y. - The Hilbert College men's soccer team kept their playoff hopes alive with a 4-2 win over their AMCC opponent, the Barons of Franciscan, to celebrate Senior Day. Matt Hamister was the impact player for the Hawks with two goals and an assist, along with first-time goalkeeper, Jon Davison, who was credited with 12 saves.

Hamister struck early for the Hawks off a pass from Matthew Buehlmann to give Hilbert the lead. The Hawks continued to put pressure on the Barons, but Franciscan worked their way down the field for a corner kick. A perfectly placed ball by Jesse Saltarelli led to Leo Herrman's twelfth goal of the season, and brought the game to a 1-1 tie.

Four minutes later Matt Hamister dribbled his way into the box, drawing the attention of the defenders, allowing him to lay it off to senior Nathan Decker who scored the go-ahead goal. With 17 seconds to play, it looked like the half was just about over. However, Tomas Bojkovski realized that Franciscan's keeper came a little too far out of the goal and took a strike from 30 yards out that barely beat the goalie into the net. The Hawks went into the half 3-1 and the momentum on their side.

Just eight minutes into the second half Hamister was able to get his head on a low service by Nicolas Rodriguez to garner his second goal of the day. The two teams continued to battle in the mud, with each team getting their share of chances to score. Franciscan's Dominic VanderWoude eventually found the back of net after driving through the box and blasting the ball in for a score. As time winded down, both teams got chippy but neither would score again. The Hawks walked away with a 4-2 win - their first AMCC win of the season.

Jesse Saltarelli and Leo Herrmann each recorded three shots on net for Franciscan, while Bojkovski and Hamister each had two for the Hawks.

Jonathon Davison's debut between the pipes was outstanding. He was asked to make 12 saves in the mud to lead the Hawks to victory. Down the stretch, Franciscan put the heat on Davison, forcing him to come up with big saves - which he did to the dismay of the Baron's bench.

The Hawks (3-10-1, 1-5) are back on their home pitch against Medaille this Wednesday, October 22nd at 3pm.
