THE BASICS
  • Final Score: Hilbert 75 Mount Aloysius 54
  • Location: Hafner Recreation Center, Hilbert College 3pm
  • Records: Hilbert 16-5 (13-3 AMCC) | Mount Aloysius 4-17 (3-13 AMCC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hawks swarmed on defense early, using an aggressive approach to get out on the fast break which resulted in a pair of layups by Emily Gawlak and Macy Kisner to get out to an early 5-4 lead over the visiting Mounties.
  • After a few defensive stops, Ashley Schroeder hit a three off a Taylor Corts feed with 4:39 left in the opening quarter to put the Hawks up 8-4.
  • Hilbert extended the lead to 17-6 after a pair of Macy Kisner baskets and a Demi Battin three, which capped off a 12-2 Hilbert run.
  • Aloysius turned to the bench immediately afterwards to provide a jolt. Rachel Robinson was able to give them just that, as she scored five straight points just off the bench to cut the Mounties deficit to six with just under a minute to play in the quarter.
  • Macy Kisner closed out the first with a strong put back off an offensive rebound to close out the best quarter of her young career. Kisner finished the opening quarter with nine points and eight rebounds to put the Hawks up 19-11 after the first.
  • The Mounties opened up the second quarter with a 7-1 run to cut the Hilbert lead to 20-18 with 6:57 to go in the first half.
  • Hilbert responded by not allowing a single Aloysius field goal over the final 6:57 of the half, resulting in a 10-2 run to head into the break with a 30-20 lead.
  • The Hilbert defense continued to dominate the Mounties offense into the third, forcing turnovers and missed shots to help maintain their double digit lead.
  • Carly Stigers finally put an end to the field goal drought with a three-pointer at the 7:47 mark of the third quarter, which the Mounties followed up with two more threes to cut the deficit to 37-33 with 6:32 left in the third quarter.
  • Roughly a minute later, Ashley Schroeder nailed a three-pointer, which Carly Stigers answered soon after. The Mounties tacked on another basket to get within two points of tying it up with just over three minutes to go in the third.
  • From there, Hilbert began pulling away as Demi Battin hit from three to fuel a 12-2 Hilbert run to go up 52-40.
  • Emily Gawlak got the fourth quarter scoring started with a three-point play followed by a layup and three-pointer to account for eight points over a span of 87 seconds to keep the momentum with the royal and white.
  • Both teams traded baskets for a brief period before Ashley Repine finished off a three-point play to extend the Hilbert lead to 65-45 with 6:14 left in the game.
  • The Hawks never looked back from there, as they cruised to a lopsided 75-54 victory.
  • Hilbert's Emily Gawlak led all scorers with 19 points, while Macy Kisner ripped down a game-high 13 rebounds. Ashley Schroeder added a team-high four assists.
  • Carly Stigers led all Aloysius scorers with a team-high 18 points, while Lea Sammarco added a team-high seven boards and Rachel Robinson dished out a game-high six assists.
