Revak One Dig Shy of Double-Double Against the Mavs

BUFFALO, N.Y.  – The Hilbert College Women's Volleyball challenged Medaille University in the opening set before slipping in a three-set, non-conference defeat tonight in North Buffalo.

THE BASICS
  • Final Score:  Medaille 25, 25, 25  |  Hilbert 23, 16, 16
  • Location:  Sullivan Center | Medaille University
  • Records:   Hilbert 3-9  |  Medaille 2-8
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Hilbert earned 13 kills in the opening set, one more than the hosts, but struggled due to team's inconsistent hitting over the three sets (.050).  The Hawks earned 33 points, 30 kills, two service aces, one block and led with 45 digs, but they had a tough time on serve receive as they gave Medaille seven easy points.
  • Jenna Revak led the Hawks with 13 kills (.241) and was one dig shy of a double-digit performance through three sets tonight.    Emily Garnett reached for 10 digs and Jaden Helbig assisted on 24 of the Hawks' 30 team kills.
  • After falling behind early, the Hawks knotted the game at 10, fueled by five kills, two from Emily Garnett.  Medaille went back up 15-12, but the Hawks rallied and jumped up 16-15, earning a service ace (Garnett) and kill (Revak).  Both teams traded points, in pairs, until the Mavs extended their lead to 22-19.  Twice Hilbert pulled within one point and trailed 23-24 but the Mavs finished an attack to claim a 25-23 victory.
  • The second set  picked up where the first set left off, with both teams trading points and serves.  With a 5-4 advantage, Medaille earned four of their next seven points and built a cushion, 12-5. Michaela Rice added two kills in a 3-point run and pulled Hilbert into a four-point deficit (12-16) but that was as close as the Hawks would get the rest of the set.  Medaille benefited from three Hilbert hitting errors and finished the set with a kill to earn a 26-16 win.
  • Hilbert started slowly in the third, but got into a rhythm and took an 11-10 lead midway through the set.  Revak collected five kills in the 11-point run.  The Hawks didn't finish transitions and quickly found themselves in a six-point hole (13-19) after giving the Mavs three points off hitting miscues.   Medaille took the match set win (25-16) with strong hitting at the end of the set.
