Women’s Soccer Defeated 5-1 at Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Penn State Altoona women's soccer embarked on its first road game of the 2021 season on Sunday afternoon, when the Lions lost 5-1 to non-conference foe Westminster College at the UPMC Sports Complex.

Amanda Hazel (Clearfield, PA/Clearfield) scored her first collegiate goal for the Lions (0-2), while Anaya Phillips (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) recorded an assist on the score for her first collegiate point. Adeline Baustert (Apollo, PA/Apollo-Ridge) made her second start in goal for Penn State Altoona and made 14 saves.

Westminster (2-0-1) struck twice before the 3-minute mark of Sunday's game. Mackenzie Hupp's goal at 2:05 started the scoring, and Kylee Shannon followed with a goal at 2:54 to put the home team up 2-0. The Titans tacked one more goal on to their total before halftime, as Lydia Ohm's scored at 29:59 increased the advantage to 3-0.

Penn State Altoona scored its first goal of the season in the late stages of the opening half, when Hazel found the back of the net at 33:11 following a pass from Phillips, cutting the Westminster lead to 3-1.

The Lions were unable to generate any more goal scoring in the second half, while Westminster got scores from Natalie Vilchek at 63:42 and Brooke Horvath at 67:34 to make it 5-1.

Mallorie Smith (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte) had a team-high two shot attempts for Penn State Altoona, including one shot on goal. Sarah Huston (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville) and Hazel also had shots on goal.

Penn State Altoona women's soccer's next game is Wednesday, September 8, when the Lions travel to Washington, Pa. to face non-conference opponent Washington & Jefferson College at 7:00 p.m.
