Pioneers Drop Contest to Mustangs

The Alfred State Men's Basketball team fell in the first game of the Route 20 Classic to SUNY Morrisville 86-71.

The Pioneers trailed for most of the game, finding themselves down by 15 points in the early part of the first half. The Blue and Gold brought it to within five points with 3 minutes remaining in the half, before Morrisville went on a run heading into the locker room up 44-31. Alfred State couldn't close the gap, bringing it as close as six points midway through the second half, before the Mustangs pulled away again.

Alfred State had four players with double-digit scoring. Cody Schneider (Belmont, NY / Genesee Valley) led the way with 15 points, also snagging a game-high 14 rebounds for the game's lone double-double. Schneider also led the game in assists, with six. Paris Jamison (Brooklyn, NY / East Side Community) had 13 points, and five boards. Isaiah Kostyal-Larrier (Poughkeepsie, NY / Arlington) had 12 off the bench, all 12 of his points came from long range. Dylan Perry (Kingston, NY / Kingston) tallied ten points on 4-7 shooting.

The Mustang's scoring leader was Shykell Brown. He had 18 points on 7-13 shooting.

Alfred State plays again tomorrow at Cazenovia against the Wildcats at 3 p.m.
