HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Playing their second non-conference,match in three days, the Hilbert College women's volleyball team challenged Houghton College tonight, but fell in four sets.
Houghton (11-10) won the opening two sets (25-14, 25-17) before the Hawks claimed a 25-22 victory. Houghton held a 15-14 point lead but the Hawks did not quit. They took off on a six-point run thanks to points by
Ashley Repine (two kills) and
Anissa Quiroga (service ace) and held on for the win.
Hilbert took an early lead in the fourth set (back-to-back service aces by
Torianna LeWand and Repine kills) to build a 7-3 lead. Both teams traded points until Houghton held a slim 13-11 lead. The Highlanders went on a roll earning nine kills and a service ace to pull out the 25-17 match victory.
Torianna LeWand earned a double-double with 12 kills and 16 digs (three service aces) while
Ashley Repine joined the double-digit kills club with 10 (1 error).
Morgan Ott collected 29 assists and 11 digs (four kills) and
Anissa Quiroga earned a game high (matching her career best) 25 digs tonight.
Victoria Siracuse tossed in 18 digs posing her 13th double-digit dig game.
Hilbert (1-5) returns to AMCC action this Saturday when they host Mt. Aloysius College (0-6) at 1pm in the Hafner Recreation Center. The Hawks are winding down their final week of the season. They travel to D'Youville College next Wednesday and then host Pen State Altoona October 29 while they honor their Senior Day celebrations.
