Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Big Win, Two New Records Fall for Women's Basketball Tonight

ALTOONA, Pa. – Kelsi Ebert scored 14 of the Hawks 26 4th-quarter points as the Hilbert College women's basketball team rallied for a 61-51 road win against Penn  State Altoona.

By the end of the night, Kelsi Ebert also became the Hilbert women's basketball program's All Time leading scorer after she led all scorers with 22 points.  The fourth-year senior has now amassed 1,101 points through 89 games.

The women's basketball program also improved to 12-5 overall and at 10-1, stayed in 1st place in the AMCC league.

Also, after today's win, the 2017-18 team established a new program All-Time Division III win record (12).

Ashley Repine posted her fifth double-double of the season collecting double 13s in points and rebounds.  She added two blocks and went 5-for-6 at the charity stripe.

Kelsi Ebert led all scorers while earning two steals, three assists and one rebound shy of a double-double.

Ebert and Emily Gawlak (three steals, six rebounds) went the full distance giving 40-minutes of grit in the come-from-behind victory against the 6-8, 3-7 AMCC Lions.

'I am very proud of how the team stuck out this tough road win," said coach Amy Senefelder.  "We were down in numbers and our senior leader pulled us through with her will to win.  Emily Gawlak also stepped up defensively holding Finnley Christine below her scoring average."  Senefelder continued, "Repine came through with a tough double-double and all of our post players stepped it up in the second half."

Katelyn Proy chipped in 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds and Taylor Corts added nine points.

Morgan McNeill scored five points, pulled down five rebounds and added a pair of assists while Abbey Monahan finished with two rebounds, two assists and one steal.

Altoona opened the game with a deep shot and held the lead until Kelsi Ebert and Morgan McNeill knocked down back-to-back  3-point shots with 3:01 in the first quarter.  Both teams traded baskets the final three minutes with Hilbert up by one, 14-13.

The Lions found a bucket in the paint on their first possession at the start of the second.  Hilbert regained the lead in the game at 8:49 with a jumper and five different Hawks found the bottom of the net in the second 10-minute period.

Hilbert held a 27-23 half time lead hitting 100% at the foul line (4-4) and 35.7% from the floor.

After the break, Hilbert's offense puttered as the Lions outscored the Hawks 17-8 taking a 40-35 lead heading into the final quarter.

Hilbert was still struggling early in the fourth with empty offensive possessions allowing Altoona to stretch their advantage back to nine points.

But Ebert led the rally.

She (six points) and Proy combined for an 8-point run which lifted the Hawks 58-40 with just over three minutes left in the game.  Repine and Proy scored in the paint and Ebert and Repine combined for seven makes from the charity stripe down the stretch in the 10-point victory.

"With low roster numbers, we really proved that we can face any adversity that's thrown at us," said Kelsi Ebert.  "We got off to a rocky start but we stuck together, motivated one another, and found the open person.  Different people step up each night which is huge for us.  We have each other's back"

Hilbert continues with another road game next week.  They will travel to North Buffalo for their second match against Medaille January 24.  The Hawks claimed the first win in Hamburg (72-48) in early December.
