Baseball Dropped by Drew

FT. PIERCE, Fla – Drew University jumped on the Hawks with a 9-run second inning and coasted to the final out in the top of the ninth to claim a 14-4 victory over Hilbert in baseball this morning.

Anthony Wurstner went 3 for 4 with a double and scored three runs as a bright spot for the Hawks.  Anthony De La Cruz added a pair of hits and matched his RBI with a run scored while Kevin Moore went 2 for 4 with 2RBIs.  Michael Best, making his first appearance this year in right field also drove in one run for the 2-2 Hawks.

Logan Parachoniak took the loss in his first start of the season after giving up seven runs off five hits with a pair to strike-outs in 1.1 innings of work.  Michael Voveris and Treyton delaCuesta shared the middle innings while Thomas Raiport closed the game on the mound.  Raiport faced five batters, struck-out two, gave-up one hit along with a walk.

Drew closed the game with 13 hits and 12 RBIs but were walked 11 times.  The Hawks collected eight hits and knocked all four of their runs in.

Wurstner doubled in the second hole and trotted home off De La Cruz' single to left field in the top of the first inning.  Parachoniak had a good first inning, striking out the first batter, getting the third to pop-up to Paul Wujek and the fifth to ground-out to Taylor Haug.

The bottom of the second was tough on the Hawks after Drew strung together six hits and scored nine runs to build a 9-1 lead.

Wurstner got on base again with a single to center that was followed by De La Cruz' single through the left side in the top of the 5th.  Both those baserunners were knocked home by Moore's single to right for two more Hilbert runs.

And two innings later, Wurstner started the fun again with another double-bagger.  He made it home off Best's ground out, RBI.

The Hawks return to the diamond tomorrow March 9 against Lebanon Valley at 11 am
