HAMBURG, N.Y. – What a great day for a race.
The 11th Annual Meghan Memorial Invitational went off without a hitch and all the participants and fans enjoyed a nice crisp, fall race day.
The Hilbert College men's cross country team secured the program's second victory in three years while the women's team scored their first full race of the season.
D'Youville's Patrick Moran crushed the previous men's 5K time with a 16:46 time and claimed the men's overall championship. He outdistanced former Hilbert head coach Nick Orlowski by 0:04 seconds (16:50).
Hilbert's
Matthew Domagala paced the Hawks, who placed all five top scorers in the Top 10, with a third place finish in 18:54.
Adam Connelly (19:41) took home 4th place,
Logan Yotter (20:37) 6th and
Kody Harrison (20:51) and
Brendan Wheeler (20:52) used the pack mentality to secure the win for the team.
Ben Rinehart (22:26) and
Matt Wargo (24:35) competed in their first on-campus race and closed in the top 20.
Meghan's younger brother, Tanner Sorbera, competed for the first time in the 2019 race when he represented his Thompkins-Cortland Community College team with a 24:04 time.
D'Youville's Rachel Luczak was the first collegiate runner to cross the line (22:30) ahead of Hilbert's
Kristine Twoguns (23:31) who came in second (3rd overall).
Hilbert scored 57 points behind D'Youville's 28 and Medaille's 43 points.
Abigail Dent (26:07),
Rosita Waltz-Rieber (28:17),
Tanteyana Williams (31:03) and
Alyssa Rose Battenfield (49:11) completed the field for the Hawks.
At the conclusion of the annual picnic lunch for all the competitors and their families, the Hawks cross country program honored
Logan Yotter on Senior Day.
The team and individual awards in addition to the Top 10 in the collegiate division as well as the Top 5 in the Open Division were distributed before the final award was announced.
Junior
Adam Connelly was given the 2019 Meghan Memorial Award and accepted the honor from Peter, Susan and Tanner post-race.
The men's and women's cross country teams have a break in their schedule until the CCOC Invite hosted by William Smith College October 19.
