CRESSON, Pa. - The Hilbert College softball team split today's DH against Mount Aloysius College this afternoon.
In the Hawks' 7-5 extra innings win, Hilbert earned their first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference victory while dropping the Mounties in their first AMCC defeat of the season.
Mount Aloysius rebounded in the night cap and won 5-0 as they improved to 20-5, 7-1.
GAME ONE
Morgan McNeill's triple in the top of the 8th closed the 3-run inning for Hawks who held on for the win.
Victoria Grayson opened the 8th with a double to center field which scored
Emma McNamara.
Melanie Basile repeated that performance with a double to right field, scoring Grayson and McNeill put an exclamation point in the game with another run off a deep triple to the outfield.
Marisa McIntyre got out of a big bind at the bottom of the 8th to secure the win.
After the Mounties scored one run, they still had two baserunners looking to extend the game. But Hilbert's right handed pitcher struck out the final two batters (swinging) and earned the win.
McNeill went 3 for 4, hitting a single, double and triple, while knocking in 2 RBI with one run scored.
Victoria Grayson led with 3 RBI going 2 for 3 with one run scored and
Maia Delaney earned two hits in the win.
Rachel Allen opened the game and carried the Hawks through 5.2 innings before McIntyre (5-4) closed the final 2.1 innings. Allen struck out three, walked four, eight hits, and finished with four earned runs. McIntyre also struck out three, gave up three hits with one earned run.
Hilbert built a 3-0 lead after the 1st inning and stretched it to 4-0 which lasted until the bottom of the 6th. The Mounties forced extra innings after their 4-run rally in the 6th knotted the score.
GAME TWO
The Hawks, collecting only three hits, fell 5-0 in the night cap, after giving up only five hits to the Mounties.
Delaney earned Hilbert's only multi-base hit (double).
McIntyre tossed another complete game (6 inn) striking out four, with seven walks and three earned runs off five hits.
Hilbert arrives back in Hamburg tonight but will turn around for their home AMCC game tomorrow against La Roche. The Hawks (5-10, 1-5 AMCC) will host the Redhawks at Kenmore West High School in a 1pm DH.
