ALFRED, N.Y. – Penn State Altoona women's soccer nabbed its first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference win of the season on Saturday, when the Lady Lions topped conference foe Alfred State College 6-4 at Pioneer Stadium.

Penn State Altoona (3-5-1, 1-1 AMCC) put up six goals, the most the team has scored in a game since September 18, 2015, when the Lady Lions scored six goals in a win over Bethany College. Overall, the team's total of six goals is tied for the ninth-most in a game in program history.

Leading the charge for Penn State Altoona was Kierra Irwin (Altoona, PA/Altoona), who scored three goals and added an assist. Irwin's three-goal performance represents the first hat trick of her collegiate career, and it is also tied for the fourth-most goals scored in a game in team history. Additionally, her total of seven points on the day is tied for the fifth-most points in a game by a player in program history.

Sadie McConnell (New Enterprise, PA/Northern Bedford) finished with two goals and one assist, Sarah Huston (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville) scored a goal and added an assist, and KK Wolfe (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville) also recorded an assist.

Kaitlyn Harmon (Sunbury, PA/Shikellamy) earned her third win of the season in goal for Penn State Altoona, making seven saves.

McConnell put the game's first goal on the board at 13:24, with Huston picking up the assist on the score.

But Alfred State (0-5-1, 0-2 AMCC) jumped ahead by scoring the next two goals. Brooke Scianna tied things up at 23:20 with her penalty kick goal, and Annaliese Ziemann gave the home team a 2-1 lead with a goal at the 29:41 mark.

Penn State Altoona utilized the penalty kick to tie the game up just five minutes later. Awarded a penalty shot, Irwin converted to score her first goal of the season and knot the score 2-2.

McConnell propelled the Lady Lions back into the lead at 44:32, scoring her team-leading seventh goal of the season and second of the day on an assist from Irwin to put Penn State Altoona up, 3-2, just before halftime.

The Lady Lions increased their lead to 4-2 early in the second half, when Irwin scored her second goal of the day at 47:51.

The teams exchanged goals the rest of the way, with Alfred State scoring a pair and Penn State Altoona answering each time.

The Pioneers pulled back to within one at 56:03, when Maggie Meyer's goal cut the Lady Lions' lead to 4-3. But Irwin tallied her third goal of the game at 67:39, taking a pass from McConnell and finding the back of the net to make it 5-3.

Alfred State again trimmed its lead to one, this time at 80:55, when Abby King scored to pull the home team to within 5-4. But Huston responded with her second goal of the season, scoring at 82:22 to reestablish a two-goal lead for Penn State Altoona.

By the game's end, Alfred State held a slight 17-16 advantage over Penn State Altoona in total shots attempted, and shots on goal were tied 11-11 between the two teams. The Pioneers also had an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Irwin posted game-highs with six total shot attempts and five shots on goal. McConnell had three shot attempts, putting all three of them on goal, and Huston attempted three shots with one on goal.

Next up, Penn State Altoona women's soccer will host a three-game homestand against AMCC opponents. That stretch begins on Tuesday, October 1, when the team welcomes Franciscan University to campus for an 8:15 p.m. game.
