Women's Hoops Improves to 2-1 After Road Win At Thiel

HAMBURG, N.Y. – Ashley Repine and Taylor Corts produced 50% of the Hawks scoring as the Hilbert College women's basketball team took a 78-75 road win at Thiel College tonight.

The Hawks and the Tomcats were knotted at the start of the final session which created an exciting finish for the non-conference match-up.

Hilbert jumped ahead with a 27-20 opening quarter advantage.  Corts (8) and Emily Gawlak (6) pushed the charge but four other Hawks tickled the twine during the ten minute period.

Thiel responded with a seven point swing to knot the score by intermission and then both teams produced a 14-point third quarter which created a nail biter till the final horn.

Repine powered her way to 10 points and Katelyn Proy added six in the paint in the final session.

Demi Battin and Corts came through at the foul line as the seconds ticked off the game clock.  They combined for a 5-of-6 shooting which secured the three-point victory.

Proy's lay up at 2:40 lifted Hilbert by five points before her bunny under the rim maintained the Hawks lead (73-70) at 0:29.

Battin hit both free throws propelling Hilbert back to a 5-point advantage, but the Tomcats responded with a jumper slicing it to 75-73.

Corts went 2-for-2 from the charity stripe before Thiel connected from deep with 0.03 remaining.

Corts connected on the second of a two-shot free throw attempt for the final points of the game.

Ashley Repine's double double consisted of 22 points and 13 rebounds (7 offensive).  Taylor Corts (six rebounds, two steals) dropped 20 points through the hoop as she and Emily Gawlak (11 points, 4 assists, 3 steals) never left the floor.

Katelyn Proy added 11 points and was one rebound shy of another double double while Demi Battin dished for five assists in the victory.

Natassia West saw 17 minutes of action and hit her first collegiate three pointer tonight.

The Hawks shot 43.8 percent from the floor and hit 78.3 percent (18-23) from the foul line.  Hilbert dominated the boards while pulling down 18 offensive rebounds which built a 44-29 advantage on the glass.

Hilbert (2-1) returns to action this weekend when they travel to the Woodcliff Hotel and Spa Tournament hosted by St. John Fisher College.  The Hawks will battle the hosts (1-0) on Friday, November 16 at 5:30 pm.
