Pioneers Roll Past Wildcats

The Alfred State volleyball team earned a 25-11, 25-15, 25-13 victory at Penn College on Friday night. The Pioneers are now 5-1 on the year.

Karleigh Haines (Jamestown) had a big night as she connected on 15 kills and registered a hitting percentage of .406. Alyssa Martin (Portville) had a season best nine kills, Kiara Perkins (Coudersport, PA) had five kills and a team best 10 digs, and Keturah Gregory (Laurel, MD) finished with five kills, five digs, and three assisted blocks.

Nayomie Ferrer (Eastridge) passed out 21 assists and had nine digs in two sets while Nicolina Sottile (Lindenhurst) had nine assists and five digs in one set. Megan Gridley (Corning Painted Post) had seven digs in two sets and Faith McCombs (Amityville/Copiague) recorded four solo blocks.

The Pioneers finished the match with a .306 hitting percentage to go along with 10 aces, and 54 digs.

The Pioneers and Wildcats will meet for round 2 on Monday night when the two teams meet at the Orvis Activities Center at 7 p.m.
