Hot Shooting Lifts Mustangs

Morrisville shot 58.5% from the field as they defeated Alfred State 93-78 in day two of the Route 20 Classic. 

The Mustangs led most of the way. Alfred State did lead 12-11 just under seven minutes into the game but Morrisville scored the next five and never gave back the lead. They went into half with a 43-30 lead after finishing the final four minutes on a 14 to 2 run. The Pioneers kept fighting but couldn't put together a big enough run to get within striking distance.

Josh Reding (Spencerport) led ASC (3-3) with 14 points on 6 for 12 shooting. Isaiah Kostyal (Poughkeepsie/Arlington) had 12 points and Josh Romero (Bronx/Theodore Roosevelt) chipped in nine. 

Alfred State was 31 for 71 from the field (43.7%), 10 fro 26 from three (38.5%), and 6 for 10 (60%) from the foul line.

Tron Smith was 7 for 12 from the field and led all scorers with 25 points to go along with five assists. Jon Brennan added 16 and Tavon Price had 15. The Mustangs were 31 for 53 (58.5%) from the field, 11 for 24 from three (45.8%), and 20 for 27 from the foul line (74.1%).

Alfred State has a week off before opening AMCC play next Sunday versus Penn State Altoona. Opening tip-off is at 4 p.m.
