HOUGHTON, N.Y. - Playing their first official game of the 2020 season, the Hilbert women's lacrosse team dropped a 23-4 loss to the Highlanders from Houghton College tonight.

Aaryonah Vaughn and Julia Hasasneh netted both Hilbert goals and Mikayla Rix was credited with 12 saves.

The Highlanders took a six-goal lead before Hasasneh scored Hilbert's first goal of the season at 13:03.  Just two seconds later, Houghton tagged another goal after winning the draw control en route to rolling with a nine-goal spurt.

Vaughn scored her first goal with just 13-seconds left before intermission setting the score at 15-2.

Hasasneh matched the Highlanders early, second-half goal at 20:47 before the hosts went on a 7-0 run.  Vaughn found the back of the net with just over two minutes left in regulation which set the final margin.

Hilbert went 2-for-2 on free position shots, with Hasasneh and Vaughn converting both shots into goals in the second half.

Vaughn led the attack winning five draw controls, five ground balls and was credited with three caused turnovers.

Sam Lawicki earned four ground balls and Alayna DeFazio caused two turnovers.

Hilbert (0-1)  returns action next Wednesday, March 18 when they host Thiel College with a 4:00 pm start.
