Hawks Improve to 5-2 After Shutout Win

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women's soccer team won their fourth game in a row as they defeated SUNY Canton 3-0 this hot and air-less afternoon.

Hilbert controlled the pace of the game from start to finish and limited the Kangaroos offensive punch as the Hawks earned their third consecutive shutout (4th this season).

Hilbert outshot Canton by a 33-9 margin and held a19 to 2 shots on goal advantage.

Jenna Castricone was credited with a pair of saves while Canton's Allison Wakefield was on-call all game making 16 saves.

Both teams played to a scoreless first half, but the Hawks turned up the heat and owned the second period offensively.

Jennifer Colvin struck the ball served from the corner by Jackie Morgan into the back of the net for the first score at 55:19.

Just over four minutes later, Brooklynn Gormel sent a restart to the front of the box and Shannon Rogers snuck it over the line in the 59th minute.

The final tally of the day occurred after Emily Gawlak's shot was punched out by the Canton keeper and Gina Mallone pursued it to the back of the net in the 71st minute.

Hilbert completed their non-conference portion of their 2016 with a winning record and are excited to start AMCC play this weekend.  The Hawks are on a mission to write their own future as they were selected as the 10th team in the coach's preseason poll released in late August.
