FORT MYERS, Fla. – A four-run eighth lifted the Bethel University baseball team to a 10-6 victory in its spring break opener against University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
Justin Winderfedlt went a perfect 4-for-4 with a run, RBI and a walk. Right behind him was
Marcus Krupke who went 3-for-5 with two runs and a RBI.
Noah Wenberg put up Bethel's first two runs as his ground-rule-double to right scored Krupke and
Matthew Carlsen.
Winterfeldt tallied his second double of the game scoring Wenberg to make it 3-0. The Royals added a fourth run to its lead with Krupke's single through the left side in the fourth.
Starter
Jordan Krupke surrendered three runs through six innings of work, none of which were earned.
A three-run seventh for the Panthers put them ahead 7-4. But the Bethel bats came right back to life putting up a crooked number in the top of the seventh. The Royals tied it up as Ty Kohen got one pass the third baseman scoring a pair.
Out of the pen came
Blake Williams with a one-two-three eighth.
The big eighth inning started with a triple from Krukpe before scoring on Carlsen's sacrifice fly.
With the bases loaded, Noah Jurgenson tallied and infield RBI single before
Ty Koehn and
Nick Kulseth each took an RBI hit-by-pitch.
Williams got his first win of the year erasing a leadoff walk in the ninth with a strikeout and then a game ending 4-6-3 double play.
Bethel is back in action Sunday as it faces off with Wisconsin-Stout for the third time this season. First pitch is at 3 p.m. EDT.
