Women's Basketball Controlled the Paint for 17-Point victory

HAMBURG, NY –  Shannon Rogers and Katelyn Proy controlled the paint as the taller Hilbert College women's basketball team improved to 6-4 after their 59-42 AMCC victory tonight over D'Youville College.   The Spartans slipped to 0-4 in the league while the Hawks hover at the top half of the league with a 3-1 record.

Rogers picked up her ninth double-double, by half time.

She finished the  game with 22 points and 18 rebounds after scoring 14 points and pulling down 10 boards in the first two quarters.

Katelyn Proy added 10 points and 13 rebounds as well as six blocks in 37 minutes of action.  Proy, Rogers and Kelsi Ebert (two steals) led the Hawks with four assists each.

Emily Speidel reached double figures netting 10 points after hitting a pair from long distance and at the free throw line.

Sarah Marino led the balanced Spartan attack with 11 points.

Hilbert College worked the ball around the perimeter but always found a way to get it to their bread and butter players in the paint.  The Hawks outscored D'Youville 32-14 inside the lane, picked up 16 second-chance points (to D'YC's five) and never trailed in the 40 minute game.

Hilbert outscored the visitors each quarter and with their 12 point lead at half time (32-20) they cooled slightly the second half only outscoring the Spartans by five points.  D'Youville collected 21 points off Hilbert's 26 turnovers.

With the win, and coupling it with the men's victory earlier in the night, the Hawks basketball programs have swept both their local AMCC opponents for the first time since 2004-05 season.

The Hawks completed their fall semester and are heading into the holiday break with an AMCC winning record for the first time since the athletics programs joined the AMCC in 2004.  Hilbert returns to action on January 6 when they host Pitt-Bradford at 8pm.
