NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. After dropping the opening game 13-3, the Hilbert College baseball team looked solid in the night cap against Mount Aloysius College.
The Mounties strung together 11 runs in the top of the 8th and extended their 3-0 score to 14-0 before Hilbert got on the board in the 9th in the 15-1 final.
Derek Switzer went the longest holding strong for 7.1 innings in the night cap and
Austin O'Shei went 3 for 4 with 1 RBI and two scored runs in the opener.
GAME ONE
Hilbert turned nine hits into three runs while the Mounties turned their 13 hits into 13 runs (12 RBI).
O'Shei helped to manufacture opportunities with his three hits, one being a double. Â It was his single to the left field that scored DiSanti in the 3rd inning.
Griffith DeMayo's double in the 5th scored O'Shei and his sac fly in the 7th pushed O'Shei to the plate for Hilbert's final run.
Jordan Brown struck out two, walked three, with three earned runs in three innings.
GAME TWO
Derek Switzer kept the pace of the 9-inning game moving. Â He limited the Mounties on the scoreboard to three runs through seven innings. Â The force was not with him at the top of the 8th which lead to a pitch change and 11 runs across the plate. Â He struck out three, walked two and gave up five earned runs through 7.1 innings.
The Hawks managed only six hits and
Jonathan Wilson earned Hilbert's only multi-base hit.
Hilbert (3-21, 1-11) enters the week with two big double header facing them. Â They host Medaille College in an AMCC/Buffalo Cup action April 16 and hit the road on the weekend for their DH at Pitt-Greensburg April 20th. Â Mixed in between is a 9-inning single game against Fredonia April 17.
