Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Second-Half Slump Hurts Hawks

ALFRED, N.Y. – Garrett Rehner's quick shot to the back of the net off an Pioneer-rebound save knotted the game at 1-1 by intermission, but the Hilbert Hawks surrendered a pair of markers in the second period and dropped a non-conference loss to Alfred State tonight under the lights.

The hosts out shot Hilbert by an 11-5 margin in the first 45-mintues, yet Hilbert played to a tie score by the break thanks to Brenden Henry's four saves.  The Hawks held a 2-0 margin in corner kicks and were ultimately successful on the second.

Matthew Barth served the ball from the corner and Tyler Eister connected for the shot which turned into a loose-ball save.  Rehner found his footing to even to score in the 36th minute.

After a brief halftime break, Ryan Valentine took his place between the pipes and made three saves before the Pioneers converted off shot in the far corner in the 88th minute.  Less than 45-seconds later, Alfred State reached around Valentine for the final score at 89:25.

Rehner (2), Nicholas Margerum, Daniel Pulaski and Tyler Eister were credited with shots on goal in their final contest of the season.

Hilbert closed their 2016 at 2-13-1 and will graduate 11 players from the program.
