Box Score 2 GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel men's volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matchups Sunday at Beeghly Gymnasium.
In their first contest of the day the Tomcats suffered a 3-1 (27-29, 25-22, 17-25, 20-25) setback to Lakeland College.
In the loss to Lakeland,
John Turner (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs) and
Michael Whitelock (Pittsburgh, Pa./Schenley) led Thiel with 13 kills apiece.
Corey Hamilton (Meadville, Pa./Maplewood) finished with 30 assists, while
Charlie Tindall (Tarentum, Pa./Deer Lakes) added 14.
Ian Phillips (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) tallied 22 digs to lead the Tomcat defense.
The second matchup of the day saw the Tomcats and Hilbert College battle back and forth in a five-set thriller; Thiel finally claimed the 3-2 (25-13, 19-25, 25-16, 24-26, 15-5) win.
In its five-set win over Hilbert, Thiel combined to hit .311 and totaled 47 kills. Lasher finished with a team-high 14 kills on 28 total attacks (.357) while adding six digs.
Alex Ciepiela (Marilla, N.Y./Iroquios Central) chipped in seven kills and three blocks, while
Colin Vitale (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) totaled a team-best 14 digs. Hamilton led all Thiel setters with 18 assists.
Thiel (1-1) will be back in action on Saturday, February 1 when they travel to Rochester, N.Y. to take part in the Nazareth College Tournament. The first match is scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m.
