Women's Basketball Picks Up Another Win

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women's basketball team got back on the winning track tonight as three Hawks reached double figures in the scoring column to beat Houghton College (4-18) 57-54.

Shannon Rogers led Hilbert with 15 points and 12 rebounds, earning her eleventh double double this season.  Kelsi Ebert posted 12 points and grabbed five boards and matched Rogers with three steals.  Samantha Heiler earned 11 points hitting 2-of-3 shots beyond the arc in the win.

Houghton was led by Maisie Pipher who netted 29 points and picked up 12 rebounds.  Christel Enriquez added 12 points and earned game-high 15 rebounds in the loss.

Both teams shot 31% from the floor, but Hilbert went 17 of 26 at the charity stripe while the Highlanders converted 11 of 16.

Houghton took a 30-19 lead into half time mainly due to Hilbert's 23.3% field goal percentage in the first twenty minutes.  Pipher had already scored 16 points by the break while Wyann Jackson led Hilbert with four points.

Slowly the Hawks got back into the game in the second half and were on the come-back trail with about 10 minutes remaining.

Hilbert went on a 7-0 run thanks to Rogers, Jennifer Colvin and Heiler's buckets to cut the score to four points (40-36) at 7:54.

Both teams traded points after that as Hilbert went  6 for 6 at the foul line during the point-sharing.

Shannon Rogers had a great defensive steal which led to Ebert's layup that forced the first tie in the second half.

Houghton responded with a score but on the next trip down, Heiler took her time, read the defense and made a nice baseline penetration for an easy lay-up again knotting the score.

Hilbert jumped up by two points and the Highlanders force their first tie of the game and took the lead back on the made free throw which followed the score at 2:49.

Heiler and Rogers then hooked up for a nice pick–n- roll which Rogers finished with a reverse layup for the lead once again 50-49.

Houghton's Enriquez hit only one free throw which opened the door for the Hawks to take off from there.

Emily Speidel hit a big three that started a 6-0 run en route to the win.

Haley Oakes led the Hawks with four assists.  Oakes and Wyann Jackson earned Hilbert's only blocks in the game and Jackson finished with two steals.

Hilbert returns to the hardwood this weekend when they travel to Pitt-Greensburg for a 2 pm February 21 AMCC contest.
