Softball Sees Grass for the First Time at Spring Training

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Hilbert College softball team opened their 2015 season with two games one day after the Hawks traveled to South Carolina for a week of games on fields free of snow and ice.

Hilbert dropped both games in their first day NOT in a gym or training facility.

The Hawks suffered a 7-0 loss in 6 innings to Messiah College who improved to 2-2 at the conclusion of their spring break southern swing.  Messiah's Carrie Fix (1-2) pitched her first collegiate no-hitter but gave up two walks.  The Falcons struck in the first inning and extended their lead in the second when they posted five runs.

Jaeyln Gotham went the full six innings striking out one while giving up 11 hits against the 30 batters she faced.

Rowan University took an 8-0, 5 inning victory in the night cap. TylerLynn Langer started in the circle for the Hawks and gave up four hits which resulted in six runs.  Victoria Dzaak finished the game going 1.1 innings while giving up two runs and three hits. 

Rowan's pitching staff faced 15 batters and closed the game with no hits or walks.

Hilbert (2-0) has a chance to practice tomorrow before they face Lycoming College and Rivier College Monday, March 9.
