Box Score 2 Buffalo, N.Y. – The Hilbert College softball team battled AMCC foe Mount Aloysius at the neutral site of D'Youville this evening. The Hawks lost both games of the doubleheader, falling to 2-12 (0-6 AMCC) on the season.
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Hawks struggled at the plate due to Kelsey Ickes pitching. Ickes recorded eight strikeouts, which led to the Hawks only tallying one run on zero hits. Mount Aloysius used Hawk errors and strong hitting of their own to garner 11 runs in five innings. Six of those runs came in the top of the fifth. The Mounties took the first game 11-1.
Mount Aloysius started off the second game with three runs in the first inning but the Hawks kept it close, grabbing a run of their own.
Crystal Hailey got on base with a walk and wild pitches allowed Hailey to steal home plate for a run. Neither teams were able to score in the second inning but the lone run in the third inning came off a homerun by Mounties Chelsea Enge
. Mount Aloysius continued to pull away, extending the lead to 10-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth. Hilbert showed a glimpse of fight as Hailey's single allowed
Rebecca Bailey to score. The game ended on the next play, 10-2.
After not recording a hit in the first game, the Hawks were able to snag four hits in the second. The Mounties recorded 19 hits out of their 51 at bats between the two games.
Hilbert's
Victoria Dzaak struck out two Mounties in the first loss and
Jaelyn Gotham struck out one in the second.
The Hawks (2-12,0-6) are back at it bright and early tomorrow, where they return to D'Youville to face La Roche College for a doubleheader (9am, 11am).
