Behrend Splits a Pair With Mt. Aloysius as Mounties Walk Off in the Nightcap

CRESSON, Pa. – The Penn State Behrend baseball team split a pair of Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) games with Mt. Aloysius on Wednesday, dropping game two in extra innings.

Final Scores:
Game 1: Penn State Behrend 3, Mt. Aloysius 1
Game 2: Mt. Aloysius 7, Penn State Behrend 5 (Final/11)

Records: Penn State Behrend 9-8 (3-1 AMCC), Mt. Aloysius 13-7 (2-2 AMCC)

Game One Key Moments:

* Hunter Jamison (Allison Park, PA/Shaler Area) led off the third with a single, later advancing to third on an error the following at-bat
* Zack Bowen (Pittsburgh, PA/Serra Catholic) broke the scoreless tie with a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Jamison
* Bowen then got the rally started in the top of the sixth with a base hit and immediately swiping second
* Juston Jones (Moon Township, PA/Moon) found a hole on the left side, driving in Bowen with an RBI-single and advancing to second on the play at the plate
* Dylan Hetrick (Mercer, PA/Mercer) capped off the sixth with a run-scoring base knock to left center
* Starter Jeff Zick (Moon, PA/Our Lady of Sacred Heart) entered the seventh looking for the complete-game victory
* Zick retired the first two batters of the inning prior to allowing two to reach safely
* The Lions went to the bullpen and Jones, needing one out for their third-straight conference win
* The Mounties erased the shutout with an RBI-double and got the tying run on via intentional walk
* Jones induced a groundball to earn his third save of the season

Game Two Key Moments:

* Mt. Aloysius walked off with a two-run homerun to take the nightcap from the Lions
* With Behrend trailing 2-0 in the third frame, the Lions logged back-to-back two-run innings with RBIs coming from Bowen, Jones,  Zac Bogats (Corapolis, PA/Moon) and Jake Deitz (Erie, PA/McDowell)
* With the game deadlocked 4-4, Derrick Shields (Waterford, PA/Fort LeBoeuf) set the Mounties down in order in both the fourth and fifth inning
* Isaac Stouffer (Punxsutawney, PA/Punxsutawney) gave Behrend the lead with an RBI-single up the middle, scoring Bogats from second
* Mt. Aloysius tied it in the seventh and that would be the last runs the game would see until the walk-off homerun in the 11th inning

Noteworthy:

* Bowen had a team-high four hits over both games, tying for the team lead in game two with three
* Daniel Boehme (Peters Township, PA/Seton LaSalle) had a three-hit ballgame in the second contest, scoring once
* Hetrick and Bogats each had multi-hit performances in game two with Bogats scoring three and driving in one
* Zick registered his first win of the season, tossing 6.2 innings and striking out four
* Shields didn't receive a decision but pitched a strong 6.1 innings allowing three earned runs with two punchouts
