ELMIRA, N.Y. – After giving up three unearned runs in the third inning, the Hilbert College softball team matched Elmira College's scoring effort in the fifth inning.  The Soaring Eagles took a 5-2 win at home in the 3pm game before the hosts and Hawks agreed to cancel the nightcap due to cold temperatures.

Hannah Prenoveau poked a double to center field at the top of the fifth and knocked in Maia Delaney getting Hilbert on the board.  Melanie Basile followed with a single up the middle and both she and Prenoveau (run scored) advanced a bag thanks to a wild pitch before Morgan Grosch walked. Then two batters later, with bases loaded and one out, Morgan McNeill flew out into a double play to end the rally.

Elmira tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth and held on for the 5-2 win.

Prenoveau went 3-for-4, grabbed one stolen base and earned the solo RBI for Hilbert.

Rachel Allen (3-4) garnered another complete game, struck out eight, walked three and gave up six hits with two earned runs.

Hilbert (6-6) has a few days off before they start league play next week.  The Hawks hope to play the AMCC twin bill at Pitt-Bradford March 28.
