Men's Basketball Takes on Carnegie Mellon on the Road

PITTSBURGH, PA - To open up their season La Roche men's basketball took the short bus ride to Carnegie Mellon University to take on the Tartans. After their overtime loss to CMU last season the Redhawks were hoping to even the score by earning a win of their own. Unfortunately, the team could not prevail and fell to the Tartans' 73 to 67.

Devon Darrell led the scoring attack for the Redhawks, going 11 of 22 from the field, and netting 3 out of 5 free throws for a grand total of 25 points. The senior also recorded 3 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals.  Desmond Ross was on his heels collecting 17 points of his own. Ross also earned 5 rebounds for La Roche.

In a game that saw 8 lead changes and 3 ties, La Roche never reached a lead above 1 point. The team shot just over 35% in the field, 29% from the three-point line, and 66.7% from the free-throw line.

La Roche ended the first half with only a one-point deficit. The Redhawks just could not defend against the Tartans. Carnegie Mellon totaled 18 second-chance points to the Redhawks' 8. CMU also hustled for 15 fast break points while La Roche totaled 4.

Jordan "Six" Grayson helped lead the defense with 7 total rebounds, and 12 points. Joe Pipilo recorded 2 blocks.

The team never gave up, and even though this wasn't the result the team had worked for, it's one that shows potential, and we're looking forward to seeing it grow. This weekend, La Roche will participate in the 51st annual Marietta Shrine Tournament at Marietta. The Redhawks will face off with Guilford at 6:00 PM on Friday.
