Men’s basketball team rolls past Pitt-Bradford, 109-71, in season-opener
TIFFIN, Ohio – Three 20-point scorers and a 14-assist performance helped the Olivet College men’s basketball team open the 2022-23 season with a lopsided 109-71 win over University of Pittsburgh-Bradford (Pa.) tonight at the Seiberling Gymnasium. TIFFIN, Ohio – Three 20-point scorers and a 14-assist performance helped the Olivet College men's basketball team open the 2022-23 season with a lopsided 109-71 win over University of Pittsburgh-Bradford (Pa.) tonight at the Seiberling Gymnasium. The game was part of the Heidelberg University Ron Linhart Memorial Classic.

- For the game, Olivet shot 52.6 percent (41-of-78) from the floor, including 44.4 percent (20-of-45) from three-point territory. The Comets committed only six turnovers compared to 18 for the Panthers.
- Senior Derrick Johnson led all scorers with 29 points. He broke both the single-game school record for three-pointers made (nine) and attempted (17).
- Senior Tevin Ali was next with 24 points.
- Senior Ryan Robinette scored 23 points, with five three-pointers.
- Senior Noah Wiswary broke Olivet's single-game record with 14 assists. He also netted eight points.
- Senior Dane Vos grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
- In the first half, the Comets led by 16 points on three occasions. After the last time at 43-27 with 4:04 left before halftime, the Panthers used 10-2 run to cut their deficit in half. Olivet scored the next four points before a Pitt-Bradford trey made the score 49-40 at halftime.
- The Panthers scored the first basket of the second half but would not get any closer for the rest of the game. A three-pointer by Johnson put the Comets over the century mark, 101-69, with 4:03 remaining in the game. Olivet ended the game on an 8-2 run to gain its largest lead of the game.
- Nathan Schneider led Pitt-Bradford with 16 points and seven rebounds.
- Phillip Wallace added 13 points.
- Tonight's game was the first-ever meeting between Olivet and Pitt-Bradford in school history on the basketball court. The two schools have previously played each other in baseball and softball.
- The Comets' 109 points are the 20th most for a game in school history and most since November 23, 2018.
- The 109 points are also third-most in a season-opening game for Olivet.
- Olivet's 20 made three-pointers and 45 three-point attempts are also single-game school records. The previous records were 17 and 37, respectively.
- The Comets stay in Ohio to play Heidelberg tomorrow for its second game at the Ron Linhart Memorial Classic. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
