Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Castricone Saves the Day

MARCY, N.Y. – Courtney Vaccaro played a part in each point today as she led the Hawks to a 2-1 victory over SUNY Poly on day two of the SUNY Poly Classic tournament.  Hilbert improved to 1-1 after falling in a close match the day before.

Vaccaro scored her first goal of the season in the 6th minute and feed Shannon Rogers' first collegiate goal on the pitch in the 61st minute.

Hilbert opened the game with three quick shots in the early minutes helping Vaccaro's find the back of the net. The Hawks carried the 1-0 lead to intermission after falling behind on shots (7-5).  Both goalies in the game were credited with three saves in the first 45 minute session.

Just nine minutes into the second half, Nakeya Stedman reached around Jenna Castricone to match the score at 1 each.  Hilbert was able to get a shot on goal during the next nine minutes and each team was called for off-sides before Shannon Rogers chipped her shot in for the game winner at 61:26.

Things got a little chippy as the game progressed with several restarts after fouls were called.

Jenna Castricone saved the day when she swallowed up the penalty kick in the 83rd minute which prevented a potential tie game and overtime.

Each team was credited with 11 shots with Hilbert's one shot-on-goal advantage (8-7).  As with shots, each keeper was credited with six saves.

Hilbert returns to action next weekend when they travel to Pittsburgh, Pa for a non-conference match at Chatham University.
