HAMBURG, N.Y. – After a quick start in the opening quarter, the Hilbert College women's basketball team ran out of steam and dropped the season opener at home to SUNY Geneseo tonight.

The Hawks gave up 15 offensive rebounds in the 78-51 loss to last year's State University of New York Athletic Conference champions.

Hilbert's Ashley Repine led all scorers with 17 points, shooting 50 percent from the floor.  Katelyn Proy collected four blocks and grabbed four offensive rebounds while Emily Gawlak continued her defensive efforts from a year ago.

Gawlak (13 points) and Demi Battin (8 assists, 2 steals) each went 39 minutes for the Hawks who trailed the Knights (19-18) after the first ten minutes of action.

Taylor Corts (10 points) knocked down a long ball just before the end of the first quarter which cut the deficit to one point and sent the Hawks to the bench with momentum.

Geneseo came out after the break and just played their consistent style, sharing the ball and making the extra pass for the open shot.  The Knights led 39-28 by intermission and matched their offensive production in the second half.

Hilbert was outscored by five in the third quarter (19-14) but suffered an offensive shutdown in the final quarter scoring only nine points in the defeat.

Hilbert returns to the Hafner this weekend when they welcome Elmira College November 10th.  Prior to the 2pm tip, the athletics department will honor the 2017-18 women's basketball team with an AMCC Championships banner reveal courtside.  Fans should arrive around 20 minutes early to view the ceremony.
