Thiel Too Much For Men's Lacrosse

GREENVILLE, Pa.  –    Down 10-4 at half time, the Hilbert College men's lacrosse team fell short in their second-half rally as they suffered their first defeat of the season to Thiel College, 16-11 inside their dome on campus.

HIGHLIGHTS

James Chadwick earned six points scoring three goals off four shots on goal while Donovan Dilbert matched his scoring effort off four shots (three on goal) and added a pair of assists.
Michael Dhondt was credited with 16 saves for the Hawks going the full distance again in goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Thiel got on the board twice before Hilbert evened the score at 7:02.
  • The Tomcats netted their third and fourth goals immediately after face off wins and then tallied four more goals from the four minute mark down to the start of the second quarter taking the 8-2 lead.
  • Thiel added three more goals in the second session but the Hawks broke up that run with a goal at 4:11 yet trailed 11-3 at intermission.
  • Just 54 seconds into the third quarter, Hilbert struck first. 
  • It appeared that Thiel was going to run away with the win after they added a triple to their goal total with 4:20 on the clock (14-4).
  • The Hawks closed the quarter with four quick goals in less than three minutes setting up the final push in the fourth.
  • Hilbert ran out of time, scoring three of the game's final goals.
GAME NOTES
  • Hilbert scored three man-up goals, two by Ryan Spath and one by Edward Mathias.
  • Mathias (2), and Matthew Toro (1) completed the Hawks' offensive punch.
  • Thiel, playing their fourth game of the season, held a 40-22 advantage in ground balls and won 19 (of 29) face offs.
  • Chadwick, Spath, and Anthony Cappola each scooped four ground balls for the Hawks.
  • Spath and Cappola were also credited with two caused turnovers on defense.
  • Spath (6-13) and Joshua Maloney (4-14) shared duties in the face off X.
WHAT'S NEXT

The Hawks board an airplane early Sunday morning for the spring training week down south.  They are scheduled to play the University of Dallas March 3 at 5pm EST and Centenary College March 5 at 6pm EST.
