Lions Tennis Drops Home Opener to Juniata

ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's tennis hosted its first home match of the 2021-22 season on Wednesday at the Adler Tennis Courts, and the Lions fell 7-2 to non-conference opponent Juniata College.

Juniata (3-2) started the match by sweeping the Lions in doubles play, as the Eagles earned wins of 8-4, 8-1, and 8-6 during doubles to stake out a 3-0 advantage in the match. The visitors continued their success in the singles portion of the match, as Juniata picked up wins in one, two, five, and six singles to secure seven points.

Penn State Altoona (0-3) salvaged a pair of points in the No. 3 and No. 4 singles matches. In No. 3 singles, Casey Hess (Annville, PA/Annville-Cleona) came out on top in a tight, back-and-forth match, prevailing 7-6 (7-2), 3-6, 10-5 to earn his first collegiate win in singles. Micah Brinker (Lock Haven, PA/PA Cyber) improved to 2-0 this season in his No. 4 singles match, where he recorded a comfortable 6-2, 6-2 victory.

Penn State Altoona men's tennis is back in action at home this Sunday, October 3, when the Lions will face Pitt-Bradford at 1:00 p.m. for their first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference match of the season. The date also represents the men's team's final match of the fall, as it will break for the remainder of the semester before resuming its schedule in March.
