Hawks Split with Altoona as Wujek Wows

ALTOONA, Pa. – Paul Wujek helped his Hilbert College Hawks pick up another AMCC victory as the baseball team split their road games at Penn State Altoona today.  The Lions took an opening 10-3 win before the Hawks rebounded with a big, second-inning rally to claim a 16-3 nightcap win.

Paul Wujek went 6 for 9 on the day and a battery of hurlers held on for the Hawks first win at Altoona in several years.  Mark Anderson (3), Ryan Bonafede (2), Noah Rasnik and Daniel Christmann (2) earned multi-RBIs in the AMCC series.

Sal Carroccia tossed a complete game fanning five while giving up 12 hits and two walks in the opening 10-3 loss.  Paul Wujek went 2 for 3 and Noah Rasnik pushed two runs home.

Altoona notched a single run in the bottom of first inning and then both teams scored three runs over the next two innings for an Altoona 4-3 lead heading into the top of 5th

The Lions put six runs in the books the last two innings to take the 10-3 home win.

Chris Shriver and Bradley Perrin's singles got them on base and Noah Rasnik's double down the left field line sent them home for the 2-1 Hawks after two complete innings.

Shriver earned an RBI in the top of the 3rd sending Wujek home for the Hawks' 3-2 advantage before Altoona hit a double to push two more runs across the bag.

A huge second-inning hitting spree led the Hawks to their first lop-sided AMCC victory this season.

Both teams posted two 1st inning scores before Hilbert found their grove in the second inning. Hilbert was in total control the rest of the way after picking up eight runs after 13 appearances.

The Hawks added six more runs in the middle three inning to claim the 16-4 9-inning victory.

Two Lion errors led the two Hilbert runs before the Hawks found themselves in a 2-out count in the 2nd inning, But back-to-back doubles by Ryan Bonafede and Mark Anderson started the rally.  Kevin Moore joined the party with his double down the left field line setting the score at 7-2.  The next batter – Noah Rasnik – walked, which set multiple bases-loaded situations.  Three more Hilbert runs crossed home before the final out.

Wujek connected for a double in the 5th and a triple in the 6th and both times, set himself up for scoring runs.

Justin Hilbert picked up his second win of  the season covering the mound for five innings fanning two batters while giving up eight hits and one earned run.  Four different Hawks took their turn on the mound the final four innings to preserve the win.

As part of their spring rescheduling schedule, Hilbert (5-18, 2-6) is making an AMCC appearance at Pitt-Greensburg tomorrow, Sunday, April 19.  Hilbert returns to Western New York for their first home contest April 22 against D'Youville College.
