Hawks Close Out the Brockport Invite with a Pair of Losses

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Returning for day two of the Golden Eagle Invitational volleyball tournament, Hilbert College hoped to grab their first win of the season.  The Hawks suffered straight-set losses to SUNY Potsdam and St. John Fisher College and returned to Hamburg 0-22.

For the day, Hilbert collected 40 kills (6.67 kills per set) while their opponents were credited with 11.17 kps.  Morgan Ott earned two service aces today, the only aces credited to Hilbert.  A noticeable difference is also in blocking.  Hilbert, with only two players taller than 5'10" posted a total of two blocks in six sets (one solo, Amanda Binder) and one Block assist (Binder and Anissa Quiroga) while their opponents finished with four solo and 10 block assists.

Amanda Binder totaled 3.00 kills per set with 18 total kills (.188%) and 15 digs (2.5 dps).  Chelsea Adamski chipped in eight kills and 14 digs while Morgan Ott assisted 27 times as well as finishing with six kills and 18 digs.  Ashley Viengmay led with 19 digs (3.17 digs per set).

Potsdam opened the day as the spoiler for the Hawks winning 25-17, 25-12, 25-16.  The Bears were credited with 13 service aces and seven blocks.  Hilbert hit double-digit kills in the first and third set but suffered through a three-kill 2nd set.

Binder collected nine kills in 25 attempts (.240) and Viengmay reached double-digit 10 digs.

St. John Fisher (13-13) maintained their presence on the court.  The Cardinals won 25-12, 25-13 and 25-18.  Hilbert failed to convert 23 of their 98 attempts at the net and finished with three sets with less than seven kills each game.

Binder was the only Hawk to finish hitting in the positive with a nine kill, six error match.  Ott assisted on 13 of Hilbert's 17 kills and she added two aces against the Cardinals.

Adamski, Ott, Binder and Viengmay were each credited with nine digs in the contest.

The women's volleyball team returns to Hamburg for two home games this week.  They will celebrate Senior Day on Tuesday, October 20th in their 7pm AMCC game vs. D'Youville College (3-18, 0-5 AMCC).  Then two days later, the Hawks will welcome Houghton College to the Hafner Rec Center as Hilbert's  SAAC invites all student-athletes to show their PINK POWER in the stands!
