Pitt-Bradford Women Hold on Late to Beat Medaille 64-62

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Women's Basketball team was able to hold onto a late lead, defeating Medaille 64-62 to win their second game in a row.

Game Notes:

  • After falling behind 5 points midway through the 1st quarter, the Panthers responded to a 30 second time out to score 5 straight to tie the game at 13. Lyric Collins hit a jumper from the baseline and Taylor Sutryk hit a three on a pass from Ashley Hall to tie the game on the next possession. 
  • The Mavericks were able to score 3 in a row from the free throw line, only to see Lyric Collins make a layup with 14 seconds to go to send the game to the second with Medaille leading 16-15.
  • Pitt-Bradford used the momentum from Collins layup to go ahead after the start of the second as Jasmin Miller completed a three point play. They pushed their lead to 6 points using 2 Shirleah Ragin threes and a bucket inside from La'Shyra Williams around 2 Medaille baskets.
  • The lead fluctuated between 2 and 6 points for the remainder of the half, until Ragin made a put-back layup at the buzzer to give the Panthers a 6 point halftime lead. 
  • Pitt-Bradford struggled out of the break, as the Mavericks were able to outscore them 8 to 2 over the opening 4 minutes of play to tie the game at 36. 
  • The Panthers battled back trough the middle portion of the quarter, as Daizjah Brown hit a three pointer to get the lead back to 6 points with 2:52 in the third. 
  • Medaille closed the quarter as strong as they opened it, scoring 8 straight in the final 1:04 to take a 2 point lead into the 4th. 
  • Pitt-Bradford quickly regained their lead, in the final period. They held the Mavericks scoreless for over 4 minutes as they scored 10 in a row to build an 8 point lead with 5:35 to go.
  • The Mavericks got the deficit back to 1 point with 1:33 to play, but saw a Cassidy King free throw and a put back from Shaelyn Snipes put Pitt-Bradford up 4 with 30 seconds to go. 
  • The Panthers gave the Mavericks a chance in the final seconds of the game as they missed 3 late free throws that could have iced the game.
  • Medaille pulled within two after hitting two free throws of their own with 15 seconds remaining, and had a shot to tie or win the game after forcing the Panthers into a turn over after a time-out. 
  • Daizjah Brown made the big play for the Panthers to win the game as she partially blocked a last second three point attempt to win the game.

Leaders

  • The Panthers used a balanced attack offensively as 3 players finished with 11 points and another added 10. 
  • Shaelyn Snipes fought through some early shooting troubles to finish with 11. She also grabbed 10 rebounds, including 8 on the offensive end, and dished out 5 assists. It was her 2nd double-double of the season.
  • Taylor Sutryk also finished with 11 points. She shot 5-11 from the field. She also grabbed 7 rebounds.
  • Jasmin Miller was the final player to score 11. She did it on 5-13 shooting. Miller filled the stat sheet as she also grabbed 3 rebounds and recorded 1 assist, 1 steal and 1 block.
  • Shirleah Ragin scored 10 points in the game, including the two big three pointers in the first half. She also grabbed 7 rebounds, recorded 2 assists and had 2 steals.

The Panthers are now 2-7 on the season, with a 2-3 record in AMCC play. They will be back in action on Wednesday with a home non-conference game. They will host Buffalo State on Wednesday with the tip-off at 6:00 p.m.
