Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Castricone Makes 17 Saves in Shutout Draw

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College women's soccer team closed their 2015 season with a 0-0 2OT draw to Pitt-Bradford this afternoon.  Jenna Castricone collected a career-high 17 saves in goal for the Hawks and was critical to their shutout against the Panthers.

Hilbert (1-6-2) stuck with their game plan against Bradford (7-1-1), who earned a First Round bye as the number one-seeded team in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play-offs this weekend.

Bradford outshot the Hawks 37-11 with all 17 of their shots on goal scooped, stopped or punched out by Castricone, who just completed her first-year between the pipes.  Bradford countered with an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks but did not convert any attempts.4435

Hilbert did a great job to breaking up attacking plays and playing smart defense.  Coach Starchok implored her Hawks to be patient on offense and to keep the Panthers in front of them without allowing the visitors to play the ball forward.

It was a total team effort and not just the back line making all the stops.  All ten field players took up space and made it difficult for Bradford to find any rhythm offensively.

Jackie Morgan and Jennifer Colvin led with four shots each while Colvin focused-in for three shots-on-goal.

Coach Starchok told the underclassmen that the best gift they could give their three graduating seniors (Kaitlyn Layman, Kayla Guidi and Barrett Armstrong in photo with their familes to the right) was to leave everything on the field.   She asked the team to play with heart and personal pride and even though they did not win on the score sheet, the 2015 Hawks played 110 minutes of impressive soccer this afternoon.
