CESSON, Pa. – Kelsi Ebert willed the Hilbert College women's basketball team to a 68-59 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference road win at Mount Aloysius College this afternoon.
The junior guard earned her second double-double this season as the Hawks moved back in the positive with an 8-7 overall and maintain their upper-tiered rank in the AMCC at 5-4.
The Mounties had limited success against Ebert's offensive production. She posted 28 points and created opportunities for her team mates finishing with 10 assists this afternoon. Turning several of her passes into points were
Ashley Repine (11 points),
Shannon Rogers (8 points) and
Katelyn Proy (4 points).
The Hawks ended the game hitting 44.2% of their shots which equated to
Emily Gawlak's five additional assists, many to her perimeter teammates.
Taylor Corts added 10 points and Ebert hit 6 of 12 shots, sinking 50% from beyond the arc (3-6).
The Royal and White held a slight edge on the glass, winning the battle 42-37, but they did give up 17 offensive rebounds to the Mounties who scored 11 second-chance points.
Shannon Rogers led Hilbert with nine rebounds and
Taylor Corts hauled down seven off the bench.
Hilbert was tagged with 26 turnovers that flipped to Mt Aloysius as they attempted 18 more shots than the Hawks and poured in 24 points beyond the 3-point line.
Mt. Aloysius held a 15-13 lead after one quarter, but the Hawks responded, outscoring the hosts 21-16. After intermission, the Mounties limited Hilbert offensively and outscored the visitors 20-16.
Down, 51-50 at the start of the final session, Hilbert finished the game pounding the ball inside. Repine (6 points) and Rogers (4) owned the lane and Corts connected from deep. Ebert went 5-for-6 at the charity stripe to close Hilbert's scoring for the nine-point win.
Now, heading into the second half of the league schedule next week, Hilbert sits in 4
th place (5-4) as they prepare for their upcoming game against #2 Pitt-Bradford (6-3) Wednesday, January 18 in Pa. The Panthers will enter the game coming off a two-game AMCC skid, losing to Greensburg today Medaille midweek.
