Women's Volleyball Downs Mount Aloysius

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg's women's volleyball team erased an early deficit en route to a convincing victory over Mount Aloysius at the Capital Union Building on Tuesday night, Sept. 14. After dropping the first set, the Lions reeled off 25-19, 25-15, and 25-19 victories in the ensuing sets to seal the 3-1 victory and improve to 4-1 overall on the season.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Penn State Harrisburg brushed off a first-set loss to Mount Aloysius and won three consecutive games to clinch the team's fourth victory of the young season.

 

After falling 25-17 in the opening set, the Blue & White pulled away from the Mounties late in the second game. Alexa Henry recorded back-to-back service aces and Anna Ruff had a pair of crucial kills, including the clincher.

 

The Lions took six-point lead in the third set during a Megan Morris service run but the visitors closed the gap to one at 15-14. Penn State Harrisburg responded and scored 10 of the final 11 points, capped off by back-to-back kills from Alyssa Snyder.

 

The deciding set saw the home team fall behind 7-6 in the early going but the Lions answered back and put together a 9-3 run capped by a Tori Henderson kill off a Snyder assist. They pushed the lead to 20-13 thanks to a Morris service ace and closed things out with another kill from Ruff.

 

NOTABLES

- Anna Ruff led the way offensively, finishing with a match-high 14 kills with a .522 hitting percentage.

- Megan Morris dug out a team-best 11 balls.

- Alyssa Snyder racked up a match-high 36 assists.

- Alexa Henry recorded a pair of block solos.

- Emmaline Stevens had seven kills, while Tori Henderson added six of her own.

- Henry and Olivia Koicuba each recorded three service aces.

- Stevens tallied eight digs, while Koicuba and Snyder had seven apiece.

The Lions begin a five-match road trip when they travel to Wilson for their next contest on Thursday night, Sept. 16.
