Penn State Harrisburg takes two in the battle of the Lions

Middletown, Pa. - After ending their conference season with a win against Wesley, the Blue and White looked to continue their winning momentum when they hosted Penn State Altoona on Tuesday April 14th.  Penn State Harrisburg showed quality on the field and at the plate sweeping the double header against the visiting Lions by the score of 10-2 and 5-4.

Altoona started the game by scoring a run in the top of the first, but it didn't take long for Penn State Harrisburg to tie it up in the bottom half of the inning.  After holding the visiting Lions to a scoreless 2nd, Harrisburg scored two more runs to take a 3-1 lead.

After both teams went scoreless in the third and fourth innings, Altoona scored in the fifth to cut the lead to just one. Leading 3-2, Harrisburg proved they were the leader of the pride scoring seven runs in the bottom half of the sixth to increase their lead and eventually win the game by the score of 10-2.  Derek Slagle (York Haven, Pa. / Red Land) pitched a complete game for his first win of the season.

Harrisburg continued the momentum in game two.  After Altoona scored two runs to start the game, Harrisburg responded by scoring two runs in the bottom of the second making it 2-2. After both teams went scoreless in the third, Harrisburg scored one more run in the fourth to take a 3-2 lead.

The home Lions added two additional runs in the fifth to take a 5-3 lead thanks to a Chris Iocca (North Brunswick, N.J. / N Brunswick twp) single that scored Bryan Balshy (Palmyra, Pa. / Palmyra) and a Cody Henry (Halifax, Pa. / Halifax) sacrifice proved to be the difference scoring Troy Taber (Park Ridge, N.J. / Park Ridge).  The visitors added two runs in the sixth, but were held off in the seventh just shy of making a comeback.

Penn State Harrisburg returns to action on Thursday April 16th when they host Stevenson University at 4:00 p.m.
