Men's Basketball Wins 4th in Row on Senior Day

Alvarez drills from deep again

HAMBURG, N.Y. – The Hilbert College men's basketball team led from start to finish in their 84-58 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference victory over Pitt-Greensburg this afternoon.

The Hawks are now 11-5 in the AMCC (15-8 overall) and continue to sit in 4th place as they head to the final week of the regular season schedule.  Hilbert dropped Greensburg to 4-12 in conference and 6-16 overall.

Seniors David Arlaud, Ben Bolden-McMillian and Jonathan Jackson were honored prior to the tip and they helped the Hawks jump out to a 14-3 lead early in the game.

David Arlaud went 3-for-3 in the opening minutes and freshman Antonio Alvarez continued his hot-hand from deep.  The rookie drained two more shot beyond the arc before Jonathan Jackson scored a short jumper forcing a Bobcat timeout.  Bolden-McMillian had already tallied three assists as the Hawks moved the ball around the horn with ease.

Masia Phillips continued the Hilbert shooting streak with two more points before he dished the ball to both Anthony Buisch and Tyler Aquilina who each knocked in a long ball which gave the Hawks a 22-13 lead.  Arlaud hit a long-two that gave Hilbert their double digit lead at 10:46.

Twice Hilbert stretched the difference to 18 points before intermission and built a 32-point lead with 2:36 left to play when Ryan Hogan connected from the deep left baseline.

Antonio Alvarez was the game's leading scorer with 29 points, drilling 9-of-13 from the floor.  He was unconscious from deep hitting 7-for-7 shots and his final 3-pointer of the game was well beyond the arc and most likely past the NBA line.

For the week, Alvarez poured in 17 of 18 three-point shots.

Masia Phillips did a little of everything, scoring 13 points, leading the Hawks with eight rebounds while dishing for five assists.

Joseph Braniecki added 13 points and six rebounds and David Arlaud finished with 10 points (50% from the floor) and pulled in six rebounds while passing for six assists (two blocks).

Jonathan Jackson scored two points, grabbed two rebounds while Ben Bolden-McMillian finished with four rebounds and three assists as starters on senior day.

Hunter Martineau added seven as Hilbert collected 26 helpers on the team's 33 baskets.

The Hawks return to action this week when they travel to Erie, Pa for a 6pm game against Penn State Behrend February 14.  The Lions (13-3) earned a 77-64 victory at Hilbert January 10.
