Baseball: Bison Back in Win Column with Sweep over Hilbert

Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The Bethany College Bison bounced back into the win column after sweeping Hilbert College Thursday afternoon.  

Game One Overview

Bethany 4, Hilbert 2

The Bison crossed home plate first after Michael Whiteherse walked, allowing Quest Wilson to score in the top of the second inning. The Bison led 1-0 heading into the fourth inning, when Colton Stoneman flew out to right field, driving in Stef Blackstone. The Hawks cut the Bison lead in half in the fifth inning, but the Bison pulled ahead in the sixth inning with Stoneman driving in Wilson. The Bison added an insurance run in the seventh after Cameron Schaub doubled to center scoring Kevin Pollock. The Hawks attempted to come back but only cut the Bison lead in half.

Game Two Overview

Bethany 5, Hilbert 4

Alec Berg put the Bison on the board first in the second inning. In the third, Kevin Pollock drove in Colton Stoneman to give Bethany a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, the Bison earned another run, with Berg scoring on a Stoneman walk. The Bison added their fourth run in the fifth inning after Dezmond Franklin drove in Kevin Pollock. Bethany led 4-0 heading into the final two innings of the game. Hilbert crossed the plate in the sixth inning to get on the board. The Bison led 4-1 heading into the final inning of play. The Hawks plated three to knot the game at 4-4. In the bottom of the seventh, the Bison earned the walk-off win with an Alec Berg walk, which scored Michael Whiteherse.

  • Michael Whiteherse, Cameron Schaub and Colton Stoneman had one RBI apiece.
  • Mark Lavezza earned the win for game one, pitching 7.0 innings and striking out three.
