Men’s Soccer Suffers Overtime Loss

READING, Pa. – Penn State Altoona men's soccer had its six-game winning streak halted on Thursday, when the Lions were handed a 3-2 overtime loss by non-conference opponent Albright College at Gene L. Shirk Stadium.

Abdul Sattar (Mount Olive, NJ/Mount Olive) and Damian Dangler (Warminster, PA/William Tennent) were the goal-scorers for the Lions (7-2), while Ciaran Corr (Newtown Square, PA/Marple Newtown) and Bailey Musselman (Altoona, PA/Altoona) each recorded an assist.

Tommy Packevicz (Trumbull, CT/Christian Heritage) made three saves in goal for Penn State Altoona.

Sattar put the first goal on the scoreboard, assisted by Corr, at the 24:18 mark for Penn State Altoona. That one-goal lead held up until the latter stages of the second half, when Albright (3-5-1) struck back to tie the score and then take the lead shortly thereafter.

Yaniv Gonyoe scored an unassisted goal at 72:30 to even the score at 1-1, and Reece Adam's tally at the 79-minute mark gave the home team a 2-1 advantage.

Penn State Altoona pulled out the game-tying goal in the 89th minute, however, when Musselman set up Dangler for a score that made it 2-2, ultimately sending the game to overtime.

But Albright came out on top in the extra period, as Gonyoe scored his second of the night at 97:43 to give the home squad a walk-off win.

The teams tied 6-6 in shots on goal, with Albright holding a narrow 16-14 advantage in total shots attempted. Penn State Altoona had a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.

Grady Ballard (State College, PA/State College) attempted a game-high six shots, including putting two on goal. Corr, Dangler, and Cameron McCarthy (Bloomsburg, PA/Bloomsburg) each attempted two shots with one shot on goal.

Penn State Altoona men's soccer returns to action this Saturday, October 2, traveling to Buffalo to face Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Medaille College at 4:15 p.m. That matchup has been tabbed as this week's AMCC Men's Soccer Game of the Week.
