Men’s Tennis Starts Spring Semester With 7-2 Loss to Titans

ALTOONA, Pa. – The Penn State Altoona men's tennis team returned from its midseason break on Friday, hosting non-conference opponent Westminster College at the Gorilla House Gym for the Lions' first match since early October.

Penn State Altoona (1-4) suffered a 7-2 loss to Westminster.

The Titans (3-1) got off to a strong start in the match by sweeping Penn State Altoona in doubles play by scores of 8-6, 8-2, and 8-4. The visitors then won four out of six singles matches to end the day with a five-point match win.

Casey Hess (Annville, PA/Annville-Cleona) notched his third win of the season for Penn State Altoona in the No. 3 singles match, in which he blanked his opponent 6-0, 6-0. Jake Irwin (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) picked up his second win of the season with a 6-3, 6-1 victory in the No. 5 singles match.

Penn State Altoona men's tennis returns to action this Sunday, February 20 with another home match. The Lions resume Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play in that match, hosting conference foe Pitt-Greensburg for a 1:00 p.m. contest at the Gorilla House Gym.
