Panthers' Late Comeback Attempt Comes Up Short

Bradford, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford women's soccer team was able to score a late goal in their Saturday Afternoon AMCC tilt, but fell to LaRoche 4-2.

The Panthers fell behind early as the Redhawks were able to score an early goal on a mishandled shot by starting goalkeeper Emily Bethel. The Panthers were able to respond to the early deficit, scoring in the 21st minute to even the game at 1. Alexis Gibbons took control of the ball near the circle and dribbled the ball through the LaRoche defense into the 18-yard box. Gibbons was able to get a shot off just inside the 18, ripping a right-footed shot that beat the goalkeeper at the near post. It was her 3rd goal of the season. Sadie Wood replaced Bethel in goal for the Panthers in the 38th minute after Bethel had recorded 4 saves.

LaRoche was able to control most of the possession after the halftime break and turned that into three unanswered goals. They retook the lead in the 55th minute and added goals in the 72nd and 83rd to take a commanding 4-1 lead. In the 86th, Delaney Stowe was able to get the Panthers within 2 with her third goal of the season. A smooth passing display through the midfield saw the Panthers move toward the LaRoche goal through Emily Royea on the right flank. Royea took a shot from outside the 18-yard box that found the back post and bounced back into play. Stowe was the first on the loose ball, putting a one-time finish into the roof of the net. Royea was awarded an assist for the play.

Gibbons finished the game with 2 shots on goal and the opening tally. Stowe's second-half effort came on her only shot of the game. Kihara Gotshall was able to take 3 shots in the match and put 2 of them on target. Sadie Wood took the loss after allowing the final 3 goals in 52 minutes of play. She made 5 saves.

The Panthers (0-10-1, 0-3 AMCC) will look to bounce back in their midweek matchup. They will face Penn State-Behrend in Erie. The match is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.
