Colvin and Rogers Tally Twice in Hawks 5th Shutout Win

HAMBURG, N.Y. – Hilbert College opened the Buffalo Cup competition with a victory over Medaille College in women's soccer this afternoon.

The Hawks dropped the winless Mavericks (0-8, 0-2) in a 4-0 AMCC contest behind double scores by Jennifer Colvin and Shannon Rogers.  Hilbert improved to 7-2 and stays in the top spot in the league rankings with a 2-0 record.

Hilbert limited Medaille's touches all game and any breaking ball in the first half was poked away from the visitor's feet through 45-minutes of action.

Colvin got the Hawks on the board in the 9th minute after she directed her throw-in to Shannon Rogers' feet.  The ball bounced back to the midfielder and she lifted it over Medaille's goalie.  The first score floated to the back right corner and served as the official game-winning goal, giving Colvin five on the season.

Colvin outworked the Mavericks' keeper in the 20th minute for her eighth goal.  She followed-up on her first shot which was punched back into play on the right side of the box.

Hilbert held a 12-4 advantage in shots in the first half and Jenna Castricone was credited with three saves.

Just three minutes into the second period, in back-to-back runs, Hilbert carried the ball down the left side and served it to Rogers who was streaking down the center which she converted for a pair of one-touch in scores.  Jackie Morgan delivered the first ball at 48:41 and Courtney Vaccaro placed the second one at her feet at 49:28.

"With playing our cross-town rival, the tension ran high  before the game today.  But the team stayed composed and played our style of soccer," said coach Kelly Starchok.  "We stayed committed to our defending block which allowed us to transition quickly in our attack and we were disciplined in all thirds of the field this afternoon."

"As a program, we are proud to say that we got the first Buffalo Cup win for Hilbert College."

The Hawks earned their fifth consecutive shutout win and are on a six-game winning streak heading into their October 1st game at Penn State Altoona.
