Box Score 2 MYRTLE BEACH, SC. – The Hilbert College softball team returned to action today and suffered two losses at the North Myrtle Beach Softball Complex. Lycoming College and Rivier College found a rhythm for their 13-0 and 12-4 wins.
Hilbert was down by only three runs through most of the game until Lycoming College exploded for a big ten-run, top of the 5th inning outburst.
Lycoming earned their first run off a RBI single to left field in the top of the first inning. They then benefited from two bases-loaded walks to build a 3-0 before the Hawks grabbed their bats.
Neither team placed the bat on the ball and Lycoming connected for only one more hit until the top of the fifth, when they blasted six hits and scored ten runs off three errors.
Lindsay O'Neil was credited with Hilbert's single hit and
Victoria Dzaak took the loss going 4.2 innings finishing with one strike out.
Hilbert rebounded and notched a run in the bottom of the 1st inning against Rivier and trailed 2-1 early. But the Raiders added a third run the next inning and held a 3-1 lead until the fourth. Hilbert was not able to string together runs to rally for the win, and after the Raiders added runs in the 4th, 6th and 7th, Hilbert surrendered the non-conference match down south.
Jaelyn Gotham faced 39 batters in the complete game. The junior faned two batters and walked two during her time in the circle.
Crystal Hailey went 2 for 3 scoring one of Hilbert's four runs.
Four freshman,
Chelsea Buono,
Rebecca Bailey, TylerLyn Langer and
Lindsay O'Neil each earned an RBI in the loss.
