Pioneers Record 12 Hits in York Loss
The Alfred State Baseball team lost 4-2 against the York (Pa.) College Spartans in Salisbury, Maryland on Sunday.
The Pioneers (2-15) recorded 12 hits, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and 0 errors.
The Spartans (7-6) recorded 9 hits, 4 runs, 4 RBIs and 2 errors.
Pioneer Leaders:
Matteo Avallone (Mahopac/Bridgton Academy) went 3-for-4 with 1 run.
Owen Lansing (Lyncourt/Solvay) went 2-for-4 with 1 RBI.
Devin Mersmann (Arcade/Pioneer) had 1 RBI.
What Happened:
Elijah Barinas (Bronx, NY/St. Raymond) scored the first run for the pioneers in the bottom of the third inning off a singled to center field from Mersmann.
The Spartans scored twice during the top of the fifth and sixth taking a 2-1 lead.
Lansing singled through the left side plating Avallone to tie the game.
The Spartans scored two more runs in the nineth to end the game with the two-run lead.
Pioneer Pitching:
AJ Gartland (Irondequoit) pitched 8 innings and allowed 7 hits, 2 runs, walked 3 and struck out 2.
Jack Josephson (Penfield) pitched 1 innings and allowed 2 hits, 2 runs, walked 1 and struck out 1.
The Pioneers will play at Houghton on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
